Violin
Jerry Lee Sing Hong is a Malaysian violinist whose vibrant career spans solo, chamber, and orchestral performance across Asia, Europe, and the United States. Known for his musical versatility and commitment to community engagement, Lee has performed in renowned venues including Boston Symphony Hall, Carnegie Hall, Seiji Ozawa Hall, and the Royal Concertgebouw.
He began violin studies at the age of 10 under the mentorship of Dr. Vincent Chao, with whom he studied for eight years. During this formative period, he became the youngest violinist accepted into the Taipei Philharmonic Youth Orchestra and earned multiple national competition prizes in Taiwan. At 15, he began intensive chamber music study with the Taipei Philharmonic Piano Trio, going on to win consecutive top prizes at the National Chamber Music Competition of Taiwan.
Lee continued his musical education in the United States, receiving full scholarships to study at The Boston Conservatory with Lynn Chang and later at Lynn Conservatory with Carol Cole. He has also worked closely with acclaimed artists such as Joseph Silverstein, Elmar Oliveira, Leon Fleisher, Pamela Frank, Daniel Heifetz, James Buswell, Nicholas Kitchen, Robin Sharp, and Ida Haendel. His chamber music training includes collaborations with members of the Arianna, Borromeo, Emerson, Juilliard, Lydian, Miami, Penderecki, and St. Lawrence Quartets.
His festival appearances include prestigious programs such as the Tanglewood Music Festival, Heifetz International Music Institute, Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival, Castleton Music Festival, and Music Fest Perugia. As a soloist, Lee has performed with the Perugia Festival Orchestra and the Taipei Philharmonic Youth Orchestra. His chamber accolades include winning the Boston Conservatory Honors Chamber Music Competition and being named a finalist in the Lyric Chamber Music Competition in New York.
An experienced orchestral musician, Lee has performed with the Boston Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, Castleton Festival Orchestra, Tanglewood Festival Orchestra, South Florida Symphony, Brevard Symphony, Boston Civic Symphony, Atlanta Symphony, and the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra. He has successfully auditioned for major orchestras including the Filarmonica della Scala and has performed under esteemed conductors such as Lorin Maazel, Fabio Luisi, Rafael Payare, Guillermo Figueroa, Benjamin Zander, Junichi Hirokami, and Stanislav Kochanovsky.
As an educator, Lee has served on the faculty at the Lynn Conservatory Preparatory School and at Wolfgang Violin Studio in Singapore, where he mentored over 50 students of varying levels. He currently teaches as an adjunct lecturer at the Institute of Music, UCSI University in Malaysia.
